Middle School Digital Literacy & Career Exploration

As a first step toward their high school career, all middle school students must take a career and education planning course in order to promote to high school and meet Bulletin 741 requirements.

iCEV offers an innovative Middle School Digital Literacy & Career Exploration curriculum package designed to meet Louisiana state standards. In these courses, students will become savvy digital citizens and explore a wide variety of future career opportunities.

Personal Finance

Is your personal finance curriculum meeting your students' needs?

iCEV’s comprehensive Center for Financial Responsibility Personal Financial Literacy preparation materials align with Louisiana standards and meet House Bill 103 requirements. Business English & Technical Writing

Did you know students in your Business English or Technical Writing course can earn a Carnegie credit? With the right curriculum resource, they’ll gain valuable knowledge and skills for their futures while working to meet graduation requirements.

iCEV offers standards aligned preparation materials for both the Southwest Airlines Professional Communications Certification for technical writing courses and the Express Employment Professionals Career Preparedness Certification for business english courses.

Student Instructions

Note that iCEV has partnered with a third-party called Smowl to assist with the lockdown functionality.

Step 1: Confirm Device Setup

Ensure you are using a computer with only one monitor.
Verify that the Smowl browser extension is already installed (IT should handle this).
Confirm you can share your entire screen.
Make sure the Smowl website is accessible (IT should whitelist it if needed).

Step 2: Register with Smowl

When prompted on the iCEV platform, click Register.
Accept the privacy policy and complete registration.
Return to iCEV after registration.

Step 3: Enable Screen Sharing

When prompted, select Entire Screen (not just a tab or window).
Confirm the Smowl widget shows no errors before proceeding.

Exam Workflow

1. Complete all course prerequisites to unlock the certification exam.

2. After Smowl setup, click Check In.

3. Wait for the proctor to approve your exam start.

4. The browser will switch to full-screen mode when the exam begins.

5. Avoid violations:

Do not leave the exam window.
Do not use Alt+Tab or similar shortcuts.
Do not take screenshots or disconnect screen sharing.
Three violations = expulsion from the exam.

Proctor Instructions

Use the Lockdown Monitoring button to view Smowl’s incident reports.
If a student is expelled:
- Click Reset Lockdown Expulsion to allow a retake.
- Provide a new certification voucher.
Download incident reports for record-keeping if needed.

Troubleshooting

1. Smowl Widget Not Working?

Make sure screen sharing is enabled.
Confirm the Smowl browser extension is installed.

2. Using Multiple Monitors?

Disconnect all external monitors and use only one screen.

3. Got Expelled from the Session?

A proctor can reset the test.
Be ready to start a new attempt.

4. Chromebook Issues?

Check if your device is compatible with Smowl.
If not, try using a different device (Windows or macOS preferred).

5. Smowl Website Blocked?
Ask your IT department to whitelist the following domains and IPs:

api.smowl.net (for monitoring and incident reporting)

https://*.smowltech.net/

Ensure HTTPS traffic is allowed for all the above.
