Proctoring Overview

Guidelines for Proctoring Certification Exams on the iCEV Testing Platform

In order to ensure a secure testing environment, it is essential every proctor understands and utilizes the following procedures during all certification exams through the iCEV Testing Platform.

Proctoring For The First Time?

Need Accommodations?

Educational Setting

  • Certification exams consist of 100 multiple choice questions. The question order is randomized for each certification exam.

  • The average time for completion of a certification exam is 60-90 minutes. Certification candidates have two hours to complete the exam.

    • Please note the certification exam will time out after one hour of inactivity and if your computer automatically goes into sleep/screensaver mode.

  • After the exam has been initiated, the candidate must complete the exam in the same session unless he/she has an accommodation that states otherwise. Please allow appropriate time windows to ensure completion of the exam.

  • Certification candidates may take breaks as needed. Only one certification candidate may be out of the testing room at a time, and they may not take or check their electronic devices during their break.

  • For optimum performance, it is recommended to initiate the exam on machines equipped with the latest Chrome browser. A desktop computer that is plugged into a power source with a hard-wired internet connection works best. Ensure your computer is fully charged.

  • It is the responsibility of the proctor to ensure candidates accessed the certification exam with their unique iCEV credentials.

  • The proctor should be actively monitoring to ensure the candidate does not have any questions or technical issues and to monitor the candidate’s use of the internet. During the exam, the only approved use of the internet is for the exam itself. Candidates are strictly prohibited from opening additional browsers or tabs.

  • The use of secondary electronic devices by the certification candidate such as cell phones, tablets, headphones, any Bluetooth electronics, and desktop/laptop computers is strictly prohibited other than for an accommodation or medical condition pre-approved by iCEV. To prevent the use of these devices, the proctor should consider the following suggestions:

    • Placing backpacks at the front of the room.

    • Placing electronic devices such as cell phones and electronic watches on a separate desk, turned off so as to not use internet or cellular service that testing computers may need.

    • In the case of multiple students testing in the same environment, seating students throughout the room instead of side-by-side.

    • Basic, handheld calculators are allowed.
  • Printouts, screenshots, and notes are strictly prohibited.

  • The proctor can provide support and technical instruction to certification candidates when needed (i.e., technology troubleshooting and exam procedures).

  • The proctor must be aware of any accommodations for which a certification candidate was pre-approved.

  • Is it the responsibility of the proctor to ensure all certification candidates follow the certification exam rules and guidelines. If the proctor observes any behavior that violates the rules and guidelines, the proctor must take necessary actions to prevent further violations. If cheating or irregularities are discovered by the proctor or the testing platform, the certification candidate will be required to re-take the exam under the observation of a different proctor.

  • When testing in an educational setting, district personnel may serve as proctors as long as they have read and agreed to the proctor rules and guidelines and meet local and state requirements for proctoring. Before proctoring a certification exam, the proctor must read and digitally sign the proctor agreement to ensure all rules and guidelines will be followed during the certification exam.

  • If a candidate requests to retake a certification exam, it is left to the discretion of educational personnel to decide if and when a candidate can retake an exam. Be aware, the candidate will be required to enter a new certification voucher, credit card payment or digital voucher for each certification exam that is attempted.

If a certification candidate does not follow the guidelines, the proctor must invalidate their certification exam by contacting customersupport@icevonline.com

Virtual Setting

Remote proctoring is the process of taking an exam while the test taker is in one location and the educational institution-provided virtual proctor is in another location.

Virtual proctor is a live human who remotely watches the test taker during the exam. This person must see the test candidate and the exam synchronously, as well as the environment in which the test is taken.

Process of virtually proctoring industry certification exams:

  •  The virtual proctor may facilitate the certification final exam process with up to 10 certification candidates at a time through an online video platform such as Zoom, Teams, etc.

  • Certification candidates must turn off phones and other devices with internet capabilities unless being used for a medical condition pre-approved by iCEV

  • The virtual proctor will invite each certification candidate into an independent and private break-out room where they will be asked to show a form of photo identification to confirm identity of student iCEV account (student identification card, driver’s license, etc.)

  • Once admitted into independent and private break-out rooms, certification candidates must enable their cameras, turn microphones on and have their screens shared at all times

  • The virtual proctor may then allow the certification candidates to begin the exam

  • Once all are testing, the virtual proctor must join the certification candidates break-out rooms individually and at random to ensure all are following the virtual testing guidelines

If a certification candidate does not follow the guidelines, the proctor must invalidate their certification exam by contacting customersupport@icevonline.com
