Maria Chavez teaches Medical Assistant classes at the Grossmont Health Occupations Center (HOC) in Santee, California.
The HOC is part of the Grossmont Adult School, meaning all of Maria’s students are adults ranging in age from 19-55.
Because of the diverse age range of her students, Maria uses differentiated instruction to ensure every student learns the information effectively.
This differentiated instruction includes blended learning, which combines technology and teaching to help students learn material in the way that works best for them.

“My students tell me they like the interactions, and they like that they can work at their own paces. They can see where they make mistakes and then go back through the lessons again,” Maria says.
