This module provides an overview of how the Internet and World Wide Web work. They learn about different methods for searching for and evaluating information as well as using it ethically.

Activity: Reliable Sources on the Internet

In this activity, students will watch a video about reliable Internet resources, then discuss questions about reliability, how to determine truths from untruths, and other online resources beyond a search engine.


Unit: Seek It

In this unit, students will learn about: the history of and differences between the Internet and the World Wide Web and practice browser customization using a simulation.

Unit: Find It

In this unit, students will learn about: finding information on the Web as they identify and use search engines, directories and meta-search engines, develop keyword lists, and practice bookmarking in a browser simulation.

Unit: Evaluate It

In this unit, students will learn about: evaluating information and using it ethically as they verify content, describe plagiarism, and define and understand copyright.

Activity: Reflection Questions and Discussion

In this activity, students will journal about how they use the Internet, how to use it better, and how it may have already been harmful to themselves or those around them. A class discussion can follow.


Activity: Resolve Web Related Issues

In this activity, students will review several scenarios and make recommendations to resolve web research-related issues. A class discussion can follow.


Project: Additional Browser Investigation

In this project, students define and explain vocabulary terms generally not covered in the module. Furthermore, they will investigate several modern-day browsers with the goal of becoming more technically literate.


Activity: Current Event

Students will review articles for information related to a topic in the module. Once an article is found, students complete a Current Event form.
