CommunicationThe business communication curriculum module provides the principles of communication such as the sender-receiver model. Students will learn verbal, nonverbal, and collaborative skills for success in the workplace and society.

Phase 1: Explore


Activity: Business Communication Scenarios

In this activity, students will examine business communication scenarios to identify communication behaviors that are practical and impractical in a business environment.

Phase 2: Learn & Practice


Unit 1: Introduction to Communication

In this unit, students will learn about: the framework of communication skills as they define communication, practice active listening, and implement the communication process.

Unit 2: Verbal and Non-Verbal Communication

In this unit, students will learn about: verbal and nonverbal communication and identify their roles in making communication effective. They also learn to improve communication abilities.

Unit 3: Collaborative Communication

In this unit, students will learn about: collaboration as they identify communication styles, determine their own style, and how to plan, organize, and conduct a meeting.

Phase 3: Reflect


Activity: Reflection Questions and Discussion

In this activity, students will journal about the importance of communication and analyze their own communication strengths and weaknesses. A class discussion can follow.

Phase 4: Reinforce


Activity: Your Communication Style

In this activity, students identify their personal communication style.

Activity: Current Event

Students will review articles for information related to a topic in the module. Once an article is found, students complete a Current Event form.
