SimScholars® Backhoe Loader Certificate, Cat® Simulators

The backhoe loader asks operators to master two machines in one. This course, built with Caterpillar experts, trains learners on both ends of the machine so they arrive at the jobsite ready for either.

About This Certificate

Learners demonstrate knowledge of both loader and backhoe operations through this certificate. Topics include machine controls, digging, trenching, loading, material handling and common backhoe loader jobsite applications.

Lesson Outline:

  • Walkaround. Learn pre-operation machine inspection procedures.
  • Control Familiarization. Learn and understand operator controls and dashboard symbols.
  • Maneuvering, Driving and Braking. Learn to maneuver and drive the machine around a worksite while properly engaging the brakes. Practice the bucket push technique.
  • Backfilling. Practice different techniques to backfill a trench.
  • Site Support. Practice safely and efficiently completing various tasks around the worksite.
  • Trenching. Learn to position the machine using the stabilizers for safe trenching.
  • Lifting & Moving Materials & Objects. Practice lifting, carrying and placing objects around the worksite.

How the Course Works:

Learners get guides, videos, how-to graphics and interactive lessons, with individual and group progress tracking. The course runs on a standard LMS or offline through a mobile app, so instructors can deliver it in the classroom, remotely or without internet access.
