Ensuring that your learners are set up for success on certification exams is the main purpose of the certification prep materials. Based on feedback from customers like you, we made improvements to the structure of the Elanco Fundamentals of Animal Science certification prep material playlist.

In this article, you’ll find answers to the most common questions educators have about the update:

  • What Changed in the Elanco Fundamentals of Animal Science Playlist?
  • How Will This Impact Me and My Students?
  • What Do Instructors Need to Do to Use the Updated Playlist?

By the end, you’ll have a clear understanding of what changes were made, why they were made, and how to implement the updated Elanco Fundamentals of Animal Science playlist.

What Changed in the Elanco Fundamentals of Animal Science Playlist?

The most significant change you will see in the Elanco Fundamentals of Animal Science Certification playlist is the number of lessons listed. Previously, when implementing the playlist in your classroom, two of the lessons were titled Common Animal Diseases and Parasites of Livestock.

However, these two lessons included slide presentations with over 200 slides, which became difficult for students and teachers to work through. In the interest of saving learners from fatigue and frustration, those two lessons were broken into 10 smaller, more digestible lessons:

  • Common Diseases of Livestock Animals: Cause & Control
  • Common Diseases of Livestock Animals: Nutritional Diseases
  • Common Diseases of Livestock Animals: Bacterial Diseases
  • Common Diseases of Livestock Animals: Viral Diseases
  • Common Diseases of Livestock Animals: Parasitic & Fungal Diseases
  • Common Diseases of Livestock Animals: Genetic Diseases
  • Common Diseases of Livestock Animals: Neurological Diseases
  • Common Parasites of Livestock: Cause & Control
  • Common Parasites of Livestock: Internal Parasites
  • Common Parasites of Livestock: External Parasites

By presenting the information in smaller lessons, educators can spend more time focusing on each lesson, ensuring their students gain the appropriate knowledge to prepare them for the certification exam.

In addition to breaking the lessons into smaller learning objective-focused lessons, two new video lessons were created to better explain portions of the initial lessons focused on the cause and control of diseases and parasites. This additional context ensures learners have a full picture to best understand the concepts presented in the lesson.

How Will This Impact Me and My Students?

Though the number of lessons has changed, and some lessons include additional context, the Elanco Fundamentals of Animal Science certification exam still addresses the same industry standards and content as before.

The changes to the playlist are solely designed to help students better understand the material presented!

The weighted industry standards tested for on the Elanco Fundamentals of Animal Science certification include the following:

  • General Animal Science - 25%
  • Animal Breeding - 15%
  • Animal Health & Wellness - 20%
  • Animal Nutrition - 15%
  • Animal Management Practices - 25%

What Do Instructors Need to Do to Use the Updated Playlist?

If you create a new course on the iCEV platform, you will automatically see the updated playlist to add to your course, and no additional steps are necessary.

However, if you’ve implemented the Elanco Fundamentals of Animal Science course playlist previously, you could still be using outdated preparation materials. To know whether or not you’re using the updated playlist, check the title of the first lesson.

If the first lesson states: Note - Course Does Not Have the Most Up-To-Date Lessons. Open the Lesson For More Information, you will need to update the playlist.

You can find instructions on removing the outdated playlist from your course and adding the new playlist to your course within the lesson.

It should be noted that the outdated playlist will be retired in the summer of 2024. If you do not add the updated playlist to your course by then, the outdated playlist will be automatically removed from your course.
