2014 was an exciting year for CEV and our groundbreaking platform, iCEV. We’ve seen a lot of exciting upgrades to iCEV, and can’t wait to see what 2015 has in store for us. In case you weren’t here for it all, here’s a quick look back at some of the highlights.
In 2014, we completed an update to our website and online learning platform, bringing our subscribers an upgraded online experience through our new Course, Career and Certification Management System. The new system features pre-built CTE courses with lessons from our extensive online library.
In addition to pre-made lesson plans and multimedia content, our new partnership with Learnosity enables us to deliver interactive assessments and activities for students through iCEV. The system automatically evaluates and records results, providing an easy way for educators to analyze student achievement data.
Through the enhanced version of iCEV, students can also obtain industry-backed certifications while completing regular coursework.
"It was our goal to blend industry certifications and classroom teaching in a more cohesive fashion," said iCEV President Dusty Moore. "Our new platform allows students to work toward their career goals while they are advancing through regular coursework."
CEV Multimedia updates iCEV weekly with new lessons, which are correlated to state standards. Each lesson contains professional interviews that provide students with real-world examples of career possibilities that coincide with the main lesson content.
Industry recognized certifications are quickly becoming a crucial part of CTE programs across the nation. That’s why in 2014 industry-backed certifications were a key focus to bring to the iCEV system.
Live Webcast Announcement
In July, we announced four key industry partnerships to help bring certifications to iCEV classrooms. Our live webcast event was a success, garnering attention from political and organizational leaders alike. During that webcast and press conference, we announced the first of many certifications to come.
Southwest Airlines Joins as Industry Partner
iCEV also teamed up with Southwest Airlines, the nation's largest air carrier, to develop a new course and certification that will ensure students can communicate effectively upon entering the workplace. The Professional Communications Certification tackles important topics, such as written and verbal communication, time management, listening skills and managing diversity within a work environment. The Professional Communications Certification is designed for all students, regardless of their chosen program of study.
We expanded our online library this year by producing several new major series including Advanced Plant & Soil Science, Formulas for Career Success and Microsoft Office 2013.
Every year, iCEV attends multiple education, technology and career-based conferences around the country. Here's a look back at some of this year's key moments.
ACTE's CareerTech VISION 2014
VISION 2014 was a huge success! We sponsored the Opening General Session and kicked off the event with a special performance from Buck McCoy as Tim McGraw. CEV President Jeff Lansdell even joined in on the fun.
We enjoyed visiting with everyone who stopped by our booth and attended our workshops. We had a great time presenting our new curriculum platform and connecting with customers and educators from across the United States. Prizes were also awarded to a few lucky individuals including a Tim McGraw autographed guitar, iPad Minis and several iTunes gift cards.
At this year’s National FFA Convention, we had the opportunity to speak with the National Association of Supervisors of Agricultural Education (NASAE). This group administers and supervises career education in agriculture on the district, area, state and national levels. During our discussions, we received affirmation that CTE is continually being called upon to validate their programs and the development of industry-backed certifications for students will definitely help with this validation. We also had the opportunity to demonstrate the new iCEV features to both the livestock evaluation and meats evaluation CDE coaches, along with give specific advice on how to utilize the platform to train CDE judging teams. At the booth, we received positive feedback from numerous current iCEV subscribers and had the opportunity to inform others of the features and benefits of the site. iPad minis and other prizes were given to attendees. Skelly was also in attendance, greeting booth visitors and guarding the candy.
In July, we attended VATAT where we debuted our new system and new certification program, as well as hosted a workshop. Plenty of visitors stopped by the booth to get a first-hand look at all of the latest features.
